Partial abdominoplasty is similar to abdominoplasty except a shorter incision is made and the skin is only lifted to the navel, which does not have to be moved.
Also called belt lipectomy or torsoplasty, the circumferential body lift is performed to remove excess skin from the abdomen and torso. Body lifts tighten and tone the abdomen, back, buttocks, hips and thighs. Candidates for body lifts typically suffer from loose (inelastic) skin on many or most areas of the body as a result of age, childbearing or significant weight loss due to diet, exercise or bariatric surgery. Because of this, the procedure is often combined with others such as breast lifts, arm lifts and liposuction to retain an attractive body proportion.
A high lateral tension abdominoplasty combines the effects of a tummy tuck and a lateral thigh lift without the need to undergo an extensive body lift. The resulting scar is a little longer and is located slightly higher up the sides of the abdomen than the scar created by a regular abdominoplasty.
Recovery after AbdominoplastyA temporary tube may be inserted to drain excess fluid from the surgical site. Recovery time ranges from two weeks to a few months.
Tummy Tuck ResultsAbdominoplasty will leave a scar spanning the lower abdomen from hip to hip. Dr. Afridi makes every attempt to place the scar low enough to be concealed by a bikini or underwear, although this is never guaranteed. With a balanced diet and regular exercise, results are long-lasting.
Risks of AbdominoplastyThough rare, post-operative complications from surgery are possible. They may include infection, blood clots, and poor healing, which may require further surgery. Patients who have had previous abdominal surgery should know that their old scars could be raised, stretched or generally more noticeable after the procedure. A scar revision procedure after abdominoplasty may minimize the appearance of an unsightly scar. » See before-and-after images of Dr. Afridi's patients who underwent abdominoplasty (tummy tuck)
